Another Clarification

To computer illiterate patrons:

It is not my fault that you do not know how to use the internet. When I tell you that you cannot use Outlook on a public computer without specifying a POP3 server, which the security settings on it will not allow you to do anyway, I am not saying so to be a bitch. I am saying so because it is true. And I am guessing that, since you don't know how to write an email from your web-based account, you also don't know what a POP3 server is. Therefore, when you angrily insist that you always use Outlook on our computers to send email, you are only making youself look more idiotic.

And no, I will not type up your letter for you simply because you don't know how to type. This is not 1950, and I am not your secretary. I am actually allowed to complete more complex tasks than typing up your chicken scratch, even though you are a man and I am a woman. I am smarter than you are; get used to it.

I am also not your servant. That is why I do not look up when you whistle at me because you do not know how to use a computer and want me to tell you how. Snapping your fingers is equally ineffective unless you happen to catch my eye while I am glancing at your screen to make sure you are not looking at porn. And trust me, you do not want me to catch you looking at porn.

That is all.

A Clarification

There are three people total who are allowed to call me hon, honey, sweetie, sweetheart, sweetie pie, baby, and so forth. Those people are my mother, my father, and Mark. No one else has that privilege,* and even those who do know better than to call me such things in my place of work. It is patronizing and disrespectful coming from anyone else, particularly people who come into or call the library needing my help in finding a book or a phone number or an obscure piece of information. They have the tools available to do all of these things for themselves, yet they are unable or unwilling to do so and therefore require my help. I make a point not to call patrons hon or honey or sweetie pie, even those who are under the age of ten. They should be at least that respectful toward me. I am not a cute little girl playing dress-up in business casual clothes and a toy computer. I am the keeper of the information they desire, and people who are not

That is all.

*I am willing to make an exception for the occasional male with a genuine British accent who calls all females "love."

My Animated Persona

So Mark got "Neon Genesis Evangelion" from the library, and we've been going through the series. This is the first anime either one of us has really watched with any kind of dedication. It's not half bad, but it still has that weird Japanese humor that causes one eyebrow to go up my forehead uncontrollably.

What Neon Genesis Evangelion character are you?
